Dealing With Criticism

This is something that affects millions all over the world, including myself. I have been criticised about my weight for quite a few years. I have never been a skinny person and that is just the truth. Upon reaching Secondary School, I was bullied for being the size that I was, which i let get to me. From that moment on, I believed that I should be skinnier, which i have never been able to do. I think that it is horrible that people believe that making people feel bad, makes them feel better about themselves. A few months at college, we had a talk about the prevention of radicalisation. Now, I understand that radicalisation and a few mean bullies are different things. However, they both express hate against something that does not fit in with their 'ideal' world. There will never be a time, where people should be criticised or targeted for being themselves. What gives people the right to decide that people should be targeted for being how they are?

Me being criticised on my appearance was probably the worst time of my life. It made me feel useless and worthless. But, I had people around me who went against the criticism. They ASSURED me that i was more than what i had heard before. But even though I had all these people around me, it still sucks knowing that people don't accept that I am not skinny. A TV presenter in America believes that fat shaming helps and encourages people to lose weight. He said that people should never feel like they are perfect for how they are, they should always being aiming for more. Hang on mate. Are you telling me that verbally abusing someone about their weight makes them feel okay? In the real world, it doesn't. Now, James Corden responded to this presenter, and I will attach that video to the post so you can see for yourself. A majority of people do not take criticism well, and fat shaming makes people depressed, anxious, insecure. It can lead to horrible outcomes like self harm or even suicide.

Fat shaming will never be something that is good. A guy in America was fat shamed, he then skipped meals just to lose weight. So yes, he is now skinny, but he felt awful throughout the whole process and it made him miserable. If this has ever happened to you, then my advice is talk to people. My only regret through the bullying was not telling people every time it happened. Now i know, that talking to people helps. It doesn't have to be professional help, it can just be your friends, family. Never let anyone tell you that you are a disgrace for being yourself; because chances are, you are perfect as you are.
